Bassos rule! Interestingly Hotter is pretty unsteady by this time - but who cares - and the GI is meant to be about 150 years old anyway - still wonderful to hear him in this role. He warms up as he goes - not surprising, since he has to come on and sing this from cold as it were. These big voices - like stegosauruses battling for dominance. ❤️ Of course, Christoff is still Da Man…..

One of the finest bass singers of his time & not as well remembered as he should be. I wonder if there are any recordings of him interpreting Loewe Balladen. He could sing Bach beautifully as well. Sorry that hearing problems forced his relatively early retirement. His recording of Sarastro is the smoothest & warmest voice I have yet to hear in this role. Thanks so much for the posting 31:27

Siepi kept his wonderful instrument in marvelous shape even into his later years. I saw & heard him in 1984 when he performed in LA SONNAMBULA in Seattle & it was beautifully sung. You Tube also has his recital with Freni a couple years after this & he remained in top form. I think he retired around 1988 but of this I am not certain. I have heard of no further performances after this.

YES...MAYBE HE SHOULD HAVE SUNG SOMETHING ELSE.......LETS SEE.....ITS IN ENGLISH......THE LEGATO IS UNBREAKABLE.....THE TONE IS RICH......EVERYTHING ACHIEVED WITH RESTRAINT.....HIS VOICE IS OF A REMARKABLE BEAUTY....THE MOOD OF THE MUSIC AND ITS SENSE OF MISTICAL WONDER ALL ACHIEVED WITHOUT EXAGERATION IN INTELLIGIBLE ENGLISH....A RARE PERFORMANCE ....NO FUSS...JUST GENTLE MUSIC MAKING.......MAYBE HE SHOULDNT BE WHO HE IS.....MAYBE HE COULD TRY TO BE SOMEONE ELSE .......

I only had the honor of hearing Mr. Siepi once in a performance of Don Carlo in Long Beach California in 1985. Even at his advanced age the beauty and luster of his voice were still there. That was a night I will never forget.

Zauberflöte im Englisch geht nicht.🤣Oper muss immer in Originalsprache gesungen werden. Das war Mode, und ist es zum Teil noch in einigen Gebieten, aber es sollte tunlichst vermieden werden. Siepi allerdings beeindruckend wie immer.

Man darf nicht vergessen dass unser Gehirn der komplexeste Computer im bekannten Universum ist. Der dude benutzt sicherlich um die 40-50% von seinem Gehirn.

What a magnificent and varied lineup of selections. It speaks to Siepi’s versatility, not to mention vocal stamina. I can’t imagine singing solo selections for 90 minutes straight. 30 minutes was tricky enough for me! Bravo Cesare!

A really great Lied for Hotter. Even Fischer-Dieskau sings this in the original key. At least in the recording studio Dieskau managed all the low notes which surprised me. Quasthoff‘s rendition is also outstanding. Lots of examples of this wonderful Lied on You Tube & thanks so, much for the posting here.

Der Rüdiger ging damals durch alle Talkshows und hat sogar einen japanischen Rechenmeister bezwungen, etwas, was als unmöglich galt für einen Ausländer. Seine Rechenfertigkeiten sind beeindruckend. ABER ich erinnere an diesen Spruch: "Der Mangel an mathematischer Bildung gibt sich durch nichts so auffallend zu erkennen wie durch maßlose Schärfe im Zahlenrechnen." - Carl Friedrich Gauß, allgemein als der größte Mathematiker aller Zeiten anerkannt, der ironischerweise auch superkrass Kopfrechnen konnte.

....his perfectly balanced voice allowed an unbelievable range of roles on stage. From Bach til Wagner and Verdi. He did them all and did all extremely well. He kept this marvelous voice til his regrettable illness which cost his career. Franz Crass will be remembered as one of the most cultivated voices in musical history. Mi piace moltissimo

...Un Basso Cantante par excellence! Perfect balance over all registers, you could see and hear his philanthropy. Where others used pure force, Franz Crass always demonstrated „Cantare“. From Bach and Händel to Mozart, Strauss, Verdi and Wagner, it always was a pure pleasure listening to him. RIP
